I drove by an auto repair shop today and noticed a Jeep out front. Not just any Jeep, but a '91 Sahara. 5 sp., 4.0L, old style rollbar... some of you may remember me posting that exact description as my "favorite" Jeep.
It was nice. New Supertop, full doors... clean as a whistle.
It was curiously parked out front facing the road, almost as if it were on display, so I pulled in looking for a "for Sale" sign. There was none.
Taking a long shot, I jotted down the # on the building and left a message for the shop sayiong if it was for sale that I may be interested and left my #.
He called tonight.
'91 Sahara, 120K miles. It just had the transmission rebuilt (with clutch, PP, TO bearings), new brakes, rotors, and drums. He replaced the exhaust manifold because it was cracked (big surprise). He said there is not a spot of rust on it, body or frame. He said there's no leaks, it doesn't use oil, and it runs strong. Oh, and the AC works.
He wants $4995 and he said that price was firm because he needs the cash. I told him it was a bit high but I'd come take a look.
I think there is a good chance I will be overpaying for a Jeep very soon. Normally I am a cheap baaastid and hunt like mad for the best bargain out there but this is the Jeep I have always wanted and it sounds (and looked from what I've seen so far) like it is in great shape. All I can say is if it is as he described I'm all over it.
What pains me is I can't get over there to see it 'till Friday. He said he is going to wait to put a sign on it till after I look at it.
All I know is common sense is gone and I might as well go look at it with "Chump" written on my forehead as I want that Jeep bad.
Do I need to have sense talked into me or am I right to be giddy over this thing???
Oh yeah, he said he's throw in the hardtop for $500. I was thinking that would be the only bargaining chip I have, bring cash and tell him if he throws in the hardtop fop free he's got a deal.
