Tps?

Hey I have had a check engine light on for a while, maybe three weeks, which keeps going on and off, so i took my jeep to auto zone and got it diagnosed, and the guy said it was the throttle positioning sensor. He said he had the part, but I dont know where exactly it goes, or if i could actually do it myself, since i dont have just a whole lot of under the hood know how. Help?

Very easy to change. The TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) is located in the Throttle Body, and tells the ECU how much open the intake is. There are 2 screws holding it to the TB (NOTE: if I remember correctly, they are tamper-proof torx, so you will need a set of these to get them out!). Easiest way to work this is to take the TB out (you have to unplug the IAS and the TPS, and take out 4 screws) and replace the TPS with the TB out of the engine compartment (simple to do and will save you a backache!).

Both of this drawings are for a '94, but they should be similar for later models...

No prob! I'm just paying back all the help I got here about a year ago! LOL!

mine was throwing the same code.... i replaced it with the 4.0 that came on my used throttle body(to do conversion) to my suprise it works great

Yeah? Thats sweet! I was gonna buy a new one cause I know no one who does this kinda stuff and Ive been checkin the only wrecking yard in town with no luck:?| It would be great if I could find one else where cause places like auto zone and such are chargin around 80 bucks for one and Im not really made of money haha, but yeah, if anyone has one that works Ive got a 4.0 and would be willing to buy!

i'm running the 2.5l and did the tb swap..... just got kucky even though the part #'s r diff it is running fine.... biought my 4.0 tb used on ebay for like 30 bucks

Oh, yeah, does this problem also effect your cruise control? my jeep came with cruise which worked up until a bit ago, but i dont really use it a whole lot, so im not sure when it stopped working, i just know it doesnt now, and the tps is connected to the gas and all that so i was just wondering.
