I have 265/75/15 on my 1997 wrangler, they are bald what size tire is this in 31/10/15 numbers. Also what is the largest tire you can actually fit under a tj without lifting it. thanks
If my conversions are correct, they would equal 30.65 x 10.4 x 15's.......rounded, you could call the 31 x 10.5 x 15's which is what I run on my '03 with no rubbing (no lift - 4" backspacing). 'Bout as big as you can go without a lift. Also gotta consider gearing if you're runnin' a 4banger. 31's will do alright with stock gears, but anything bigger will turn your Jeep into a dog!
I have flipped a CJ......I'm still taking chances
No really, that TJ has a track width that is at least 4" wider than any CJ built. It is much more stable. I'm not trying to argue with you here, and I completely understand your reasons too. Anyway, the 31x10.50s will fit fine.
A metric tire size , such as 265/75/15 breaks down like:
-265 is the tire width from sidewall to sidewall, expressed in millimeters
-75 is the aspect ratio / the sidewall is 75% of the tires width
-15 is the rim diameter
To convert 265/75/15:
265 x .03937 = 10.43305" section width(sidewall to sidewall)
I used to get stuck with picking tire sizes for friends hotrods. You have to do those calculations like 50 times just trying to find a rim/tire combo that fits the front and matches the profile of the rear, when running "bigs and littles". Along with about 20 other measurements concerning fitment......then you have to HOPE the tire is the size the manufacturer claims it is!
I just run across alot of people that have never really thought about it. They just know a certain size fits a certain vehicle and never go any further, therefore never bothering to learn how to convert one.
