Hi all,

So my buddy drives a 95 YJ, black, and walked outside this morning to find that his full doors were stolen in the night. Sucks pretty bad. There's more, he needs to head down to Baja California on Thursday for a month to do fieldwork and doors are kinda critical down in Baja for security reasons when not at your vehicle.

Here's my plea to the SoCal area folks...Anyone know of places to get doors quick (and cheap since we're students  ). We're gonna start checking around for junkyard possibilities but I don't have much info regarding LA or SoCal junkyards that have jeep parts. Any help would be appreciated, even if you know of a cheap place online to get full doors for a YJ. Thanks for all the help in advance.

Cheers

be prepared to grap your ankles, i would suspect... or just buy a gun and know how to hit what you aim for

Yeah, I checked quadratec for new doors and they want 2K for a pair. Seems like an insurance claim unless we can find a pair locally for less than $500 at a junkyard. The sucky part is that he needs them so quick. Not a problem driving around Socal with no doors usually!

Lock rite locker

dude without a doubt sucks more. im not sure about your side of the world because i live in pa, but even junk yard full steel doors will run more than 500. here is an idea.....call the insurance company, pay the deductible. they will cut a check for the cost of new doors (dealership cost). buy a pair on ebay cheap, and you can pay the premium with the extra cash. most insurance companies will do this, not all. i know its not real "ethical" but i hate insurance companies.

Check the local gas stations and see if they have an old YJ sitting out back. Some do, some dont, but its worth a try.

I've been wondering this for awhile, it sort of pertains to this subject... is there anything you can get to lock all your doors and windows in the back of the jeep when they're not on?? I always just take them off and leave them in the garage so they dont get stolen... but then again, I always get caught in the rain windowless...

That does suck. I paid $500 for a set I got off ebay. That was a lucky find 'cause the guy lived 20 min away and ended the auction early for me.

If you're referring to the full doors, you can run a chain/padlock through the open windows and the rollbar. I would sugget wrapping a chain with some pipe insulation or a towel or something to avoid paint damage to the doors/rollbar. A bike lock would work also, but might be kinda thin?

Here's an update. My buddy lives in Hermosa Beach, CA and within a few square miles 8 jeeps all had their doors stolen. All full doors as well. He called the police and an officer showed up at his house and before he even said what was happening the officer said "Let me guess, you had your doors stolen from your jeep." So he's going to go the insurance route. His deductible is $500, and it doesn't look like he'll find a set of doors for much less than that. The stealership he called quoted him $700/door for new ones, so he's gonna get those. The only issue is that he needs to leave on Thursday for Baja and the doors won't be in for close to a month. So he's taking my half doors temporarily for his Baja trip.

Anyhow, I just bought a door security kit from ebay for my own jeep and my friend is picking one up as well. They are pretty cheap ($20 shipped) and they might deter someone. I'll let you know my opinion when they arrive. Here is the link for this product:

Funny thing, we went on craigslist.org to see if we could pick up a set of doors cheap and there was a post from a girl who was also looking for doors. She had her full doors stolen twice in the past 8 months. Now that sucks the most of all for sure. Look into those locks people!

Look out for cheap doors for sle in your area.Check ebay and the penny saver.I am sure the people who stole them are not putting them on their vehicles, but rather selling them.

Just a bit off topic, but a buddy of mine was selling his old Honda last year on eBay. One local came by to look at it, then made the high bid on eBay. Before the auction ended, the car was stolen. Two weeks later, it was listed on eBay by who else? The guy that came to look at it in his driveway!!! Not the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree, was he?

those should work until the crooks buy a set to get the tool....

Yeah the door hinge security kit is OK at best. Quite ingeneous though. Essentially it is a 1/2" socket that has been shaved down to fit into a sleeve that covers the nut that secures the top hince. It will definitely prevent the jerkwads from stealing your doors but a pro will buy one of the kits to have on hand. Not too bad for $20 shipped though, can't really complain.
