i just ordered 4 31x11.50 R15 Super Swamper LTB's 110 bucks each free freight which is why i went for it .. but i'm curious has anybody ran these before they will be seeing highway miles i'm just interested about the bias construction on road how much of a difference i will tell ?? :D

Get a good balance, and the street manners won't be too bad once the tire warms up. Road wear is significant on an LTB as the same soft compound that makes them a great offroad tire causes a shorter onroad life.

yeah i knew they were soft i was just curious about the bias never drove one haha thanks a million but i've still got my a/t 's that i'm going to use up until the winter gets bad ... any recommendations on rim size ... i'm thinking 15x8 4" back space ??

Try BB balancing, it works wonders, especially on larger or heavier tires.

That should be a good choice, but you do realize they will stick out past stock flares with that backspacing, right?

yeah i knew it would but i was estimating not enough to cause any probs with local law doggs i've never measured the stockers to see what the space is but heard around 5".... is there anyway i can get by with useing my stocker rims for the mount until i can swing the new set ??? i believe the stocks are a 15x7 just an eyeball guess didnt know how much "pinch" i'd get if i used them ??

yea ditto on the balancing - had a friend back in FL running 44" swampers on his F350 and he used buckshot to get his streetable - as for rims i was running 32x11.5 BFG A/T's on stock alum. rims on my old 91 Sahara w/4" lift and had great results - could air down to about 8 psi and didnt break a bead and didnt have much prob w/the stock flares (did have to adjust my turning stops to keep the fronts off the springs but not much) .... your stock rims should be fine ... just my $.02

thanks everybody has been a real help .. i was unsure bout the stockers but i couldnt sit around and not try out the new rubber haha ... now the bb balancing is something i've never heard of sorry to sound stupid but can somebody break it down to me ??

yea... not sure about the quantity but when you dump bb's or buckshot inside the tire when installing, they will spread out as the tire rotates and dynamically "balance" the tire at speed as centrifugal force spreads them out - heard of others using water but never seen it - and water would not be a good idea in cold climates but works the same way - sure someone can offer a more technical explaination but thats my shot at it....

It works pretty good, but necessity is dictated by the tire, so you may not need them. However, if you're going to do it, you should use the correct product (lead shot and copper plated BB's are far from ideal on rigs that see much road time)

31X11.5 R15 require 6 oz per tire which works out to be about $30

The problem with that stuff is it clumps when it gets wet from using CO2 tanks to fill up tires. Airsoft BB's that you can get from walmart are plastic and don't chip or eat away paint. When I still drove mine daily thats what I ran. I would run 300 miles in a day easy and never had a problem with it. After going out, chunking the tires, and driving home, they were always good as new.

wow i've read about rockcrawlers in competiton using water and shot but i never knew it could be used to help road manners very interesting and helpful really apreciate it ... does it really make that much difference from that of normal balance???

I've heard of people running the airsoft BBs, but have no personal expierience. Seems reasonable though.

Chances are your LTB's will balance fine with just rim weights
