I have a 1984 cj7 4cyl (amc 150) t-5 transmission it has 31's. I need to replace my Steeering Stablizer and I was look for suggestions:

There are a lot out there and I was wondering if anyone has advice on

Rancho Steering Stabilizer: RS5000TM Series
Explorer Pro Comp Single Steering Stabilizer Kit

Eventurally i would like to add either 2.5 or a 4 inch lift but I can't decided. Suggestions on this would be much appreciated. Pros and Cons of each?

I would like to upgrade to either amc 304 or 360 can't decided. This will be my daily driver so any support would be greatly appreciated.

I will also need to replace my shocks any particular brand.

Thanks, Chris

Go with a factory oem replacement stabilizer, no need for an upgrade there.

Don't worry about shocks until you are ready to commit to a lift, they'll need changed then anyway. As for 2.5" or 4", depends on tire size you want to run and what you want to do with the jeep.

hey i put in a 2.5" coil spacer lift with some 33's. everything looks great and it was pretty inexpensive. i put in the coil spacers and new shocks, and everything came to less than $500. plus it's simple to put in yourself.

Original poster has a CJ - leafs not coils - won't be quite that easy.

I have a YJ (leafs), and I went directly to the 4" lift because I have read too many times about people going to 2.5" and then wanting more. So I figured I'd save myself the hazzle and expense and go directly to 4", which is what I need to run 33" (where I want to be at). If I ever decide to go for 35" tires, I just got to get me a set of TJ flares and take out the sawzall (but dont need to mess with the lift again). I doubt I'll go there, though, as I have a 4 banger on the stock axles, so it will be hard to go all the way up to 35" without some additional investment in other areas...

Oh, and as for the Steering Stabilizer, they are a bit of a PITA to take out. Not complicated, just hard... So keep that in mind. I would start with PB blaster at least a week before, soaking the nuts and bolts holding it in place.

thank you everyone for the help. I was out of town for a week so sorry for the delay.

I'm mostly planning on keeping this as my DD I currently have 31's and I just like the look of 33's with the 4 inch lift but not sure. I'm not a big off road person but I do plan on taking it camping and forest roads like that for now.

What kind of shocks should I get just stock? I'm not planning on doing my lift probably until next summer. But my shocks are really bad. I'm just now getting it running.

Thanks, Chris
