Remote starters possible on a standard?

And Mingez it is freaking cold up here, my relatives live in El Paso, and im really jealous! Even though the temps dont drop like they do in other parts of the country we get some pretty nasty wind chill that makes it just as cold, and im living on the coast which doesnt tend to help the cold wind situation.

There is still the engine block heater solution.

That might not the ideal solution, but it could be a better than nothing solution.

Keep in mind that mercury switches aren't the most accurate devices in the world. Also, the mercury switch idea will NOT WORK if you park on ANY form of an incline (as the mercury is no longer going to line up with the switch's internal contacts correctly), thus it will no longer function as intended. Oh and even if you park on a flat surface, maybe you'll be lucky enough that the mercury will fail to make a closed circuit long enough to disable the remote starter :roll:

Thanks guys, but more and more im just starting to support the idea of running my tired half naked butt into the cold for a few seconds to turn the key and put it in nuetral, while im getting ready.

Yeah, but I am jealous of the fact that you get to live in a part of the country where people actually put there trash in a trash can. Here, instead of Garbage Receptacles, the locals use your lawn, street, and backyard. It's like Black Hawk Down out here. Save yourself!! Dont' visit, stay away!!! :lol:

No trees, and no shade, 114 degrees. Trust me, in the summer I would rather be in your neck of the woods.

To be quite honest, I only read the first two pages of this thread, but I wanted to put in my two cents.

I have a remote starter in my 94 YJ, it has been there for three years. I have a 5 speed. I was a installer for years so I am able to do all the work myself.

They accually make a install kit for manual's, a bit pricey but they are out there. The car will not start unless it is in nuetral.
In all the time I have had my starter, I always watch to see it start just to be sure. If I am unsure, I don't start it. I have started it while in gear once or twice, but always stoped right away. I love my starter It is the best thing. I even put one in my $200 88 dodge omni a couple months ago.

If you don't live in a place where it is neg 10 degrees every morning, you won't understand the benefit of a R/S but there are plenty. I have a small momentary button located under my dash that, If the car is running, I hit the switch and take the keys out, the car stays running, I can safely leave my car running in a parking lot, while staying warm, and not worry about someone taking off with it. (if I am only gonna be a couple of minutes) On nights where it is going to be neg 30 degrees out, to keep my coolant from freezing, I can program the starter to start once an hour for 10 minutes for the entire night so the engine temp never gets too low. There are other but I think I have typed too much!
