i don't want to jack any threads, but I am looking into putting power steering into my TJ, i can get a complete setup off of a 6cyl wrangler cheap, but can it work on my 2.5, or does anyone know what I would need to do to make it work? OR will the hoses to the pump screw into a 2.5 pump?

Hmm I thought all TJ's had power steering?I have an early 97 TJ and it has P/S and I also have a 2.5l.

Hydraulic pressure for the power steering system is provided by a belt driven power steering pump,Pump with integral reservoir. The pump shaft has a pressed-on drive pulley that is belt driven by the crankshaft pulley. The power steering pump is a constant flow rate and displacement, vane-type pump. The pump internal parts operate submerged in fluid. The flow control orifice is part of the high pressure line fitting. The pressure relief valve inside the flow control valve limits the pump pressure. The reservoir is attached to the pump body with spring clips on the 4.0L engine. A remote pump reservoir is used on the 2.5L engine mounted to the fan shroud. So with this, i'm not sure if that 4.0 pump will bolt up on the 2.5 without interference from the reservoir. The power steering pump is connected to the steering gear by the pressure and return hoses. The lenght of the lines will be different and i think the fittings are different as well. I know that Bounty_Hunter has done some swap on this system before and he made it work. He will be the one who would know the technical info.on what to do to make it work.

ok, i usually just read and learn what i can, but i'm pretty sure my tj came with power steering. or i could be the strongest man in the world. i also have the 4 banger

Yeah, i read it 4 times and the last part of his post did say "screw into a 2.5 pump". So with that, i think he's got power steering and he just want to swap it out with one out of a 6cyl.
