need space for tires, what's best?

I found a set of 31x10.5 tires I want to put on my YJ. I know they will rub offroad and when locked in turns. I think I should only need a 1" lift, correct? I would love to put a 3.5-4" suspension lift on but I just replaced my transmission so im short on cash. What is a better alternative to get the clearance required; a shackle lift or a body lift? Thanks for your help all.

RE: Yokohama tires

With factory springs, I'd rather use a 1" BL than a shackle that is 2" longer than stock. A set of TJ flares would clear them, and update the look of the Jeep at the same time.

RE: Here are some progress pics

TJ flares and/or a body lift. The TJ flare make the jeep look much nicer.

RE: Re: Here are some progress pics

I'm not big on the TJ flares, mostly because the rear is so squared off. The Bestop extended flares are cool (they look like a wide version of the CJ flares) but they don't make the wheel wells any bigger, they just cover a wider setup.

The TJ flares are a cheap way to get some more clearance if you don't mind trimming some metal though.

I'm not a big fan of the big tj flares either. I do like the bushwacker ones though but they're a bit pricey and probally not what your looking for. You should just trim the stock ones. Check out Lvrockcrawler's sig pic.

I did both the 1" BL and the 2" shackle kit and it works fine. just drivin around town is good but when i went trailin the front flares rubbed a little not bad though. i spent somethin like $150 bucks on the whole deal, not bad price i think.

I did the add-a-leaf(AAL) and it gave 1.5" of lift. I just used two front spring packs, and used the two longest springs from each pack. Ride quality stayed the same.

Then there's the $25 1" body lift using hockey pucks, done it on 4 YJ's now with never a problem.

RE: what size can I run?

How does the 1" hocky puck lift work? Do you just drill hoes in hockey pucks and bolt them in?

RE: kumho mud tires

that's how its done...

1-2" body lift, 1-1.5" shackle lift, 1.5-2" add a leaf, trim flares or use TJ flares... and you're pushin about as much clearance as the SOA.. with stock driveshaft... if done wisely.. the entire thing can be done under 100 bucks

I had 1" BL, 1.5" AAL, and TJ flares and could easily clear 33" tires, with no driveshaft mods or TC drop. All for under $100. Since then I've installed 3.5" springs and can clear 35"s easily while staying SUA.
