my jeeps smokin like cheech

I was on 40 goin to school a few weeks back and my jeep all of the sudden started smokin somethin fierce. I pulled into a rest area and there was a trail of oil behind me. I looked under it and it was steadily dripping on the exhaust pipe which made it smoke. I guess i blew the rear seal but it barely leaks when it hasn't been driven 85mph for a few hours. Is it the rear seal or somethin else?

sounds like a pcv. Check for proper operation of yours.
If all else fails you can do the speed limit

Did you ever think it's blowing oil BECAUSE you're doing 85? If your screen name is any indication that your jeep is an '05, then I'd take it to the dealer... and there's no need to get there 10 seconds earlier.... you're gonna have to wait like 5 days to get it back.

he doesnt need to be lectured on his speed, thats not your place. clean it off and check where its coming from. my jeep does 90-95, but im scared to go any faster than that because it feels like its gonna come apart, plus the speedo stops @ 85 so thats gotta mean something right?

The engine doesn't care how fast the vehicle is moving, it wouldn't matter if you were traveling 185mph as long as you had it geared to operate at a reasonable rpm at that speed. Clean it off really well and then make sure of where the oil is coming from.

Yeah, you need a speedometer with more numbers on it. :wink: Do a Google search for Jeepspeed, it's an offroad racing series for XJs. There's alot of neat stuff you can do to set XJs up to go fast.

Mine did the same deal, maybe not as bad. Everywhere i parked it there was a big puddle of oil left. replaced the oil pan gasket and rear seal and hasnt happened since.

Well...ummm....if it's raining and you're going to clean it up after it stops.....ummm.....why not take it out and give it a good dose of MUD first so you'll have something to clean!!!!! :lol:
