Lift without a lift kit?

OBA question

My Jeep is a stock 97 Wrangler Sport and the ground clearance though good enough for fun is going to look a little lame with a few new additions I am adding, Winch, Jack, Cargo Rack Fire Exting. etc..

QUESTION:

Is there a way to get a few inchs of lift 2 to 4" without having to install a "full" kit.

For instance is there a certain type of shock and spring set up that anyone knows about that could give me a boost?

What about those plastic inserts that go under the springs?

OR another way that I may be unaware of?

HELP! (Please)

Spring spacers. You might also need longer shocks.

No matter what you do you will return to the fact that to get r done correctly you just have to spend them hard earned dollars for a stinking lift. There are band aids and short cuts and even home fab ideas but all said and done "do er right the first time" it will be money saved head aches bypassed and smiles all around! Just my 2 cents worth Tug

yea when lifting a tj its more critical to go with a full lift kit, yj's and cj's will do great with home fab stuff and weird spring packs, but when it comes to the geometry of a tj, its control arms and stuff, the best and smartest way to go is to drop your money and get a decent quality lift.

If you stay at 2" of lift or less then you can go with a "budget boost", but any bigger than that and I will second the above posts.

That said, "inchitis" will probably creep in soon after, which brings us back to Tug's doin' it right the first time.

Put on a 3" body lift also. Shutup guys, I don't wanna hear it. THe body lift is easy to do and can give you more room for bigger tires. Your real ground clearance, beneath the axles, will benfit greatly.

bryanjeep has a good point. A budget boost and 2 or 3" BL is a cheap way to gain some lift. I'd bet that with that setup, you would be just as happy as any short-arm lift owner. You'll still have plenty of money left over for some discos and maybe a few more toys :)

The body lift would allow you to easily raise the engine and transmission and run a semi-flat skid plate, and you could probably get away without a SYE(maybe). You can raise the gas tank easier with the BL too.

I can't shut up. Tried it, doesn't work. Without getting into the whole body Lift vs SUSP. lift, a BL is no easier than a 2" BB & Shocks. Even a 2-3" coil spring lift is pretty simple. Then you'll gain clearance for the center too.

i believe that a suspension lift is easier than a body lift.... but a body lift is much much less expensive

throw out bearing...part 2

sit on a phone book.

Yeah, but in a small town, they are usually smaller than an inch. So, that wouldn't really help. He needed 2+ inches.

Save yer money and get the budget suspension lift done, along with a small body lift.
