You'll have to narrow it. It's a 1/2 ton rear and not really worth the trouble. Shortening the housing is easy, hack the tubes off to the right length and weld new ends on, but you'll have to send the shafts out and have them cut and resplined. I don't know how you would deal with the C clips after that, I guess you could use ford 9" ends and eliminate the C clips completely since there won't be a groove on the ends of the shaft to accept them anymore unless whoever cuts the splines can machine new ones on there. Maybe you could cut the housing down and use the guts from an Explorer 8.8", but then why not just use an Explorer 8.8" in the first place?
