Fuel Guage Woes...

Heya...



Been having a problem with my gas guage/fuel delivery...



My fuel guage will read WAY over Full occasionally... Whan this condition occurs, I can't start the Jeep and/or it will die from what feels like fuel starvation... Once the fuel guage returns to a normal position, it'll start rigt up and carry on like nothing has happened... I am thinking it is a bad ground or loose connection someplace... Anyone else run into this problem???



BTW, it's a 91 YJ 4-banger...

Does it do it after it has been filled up?Or does it do it with 1/4 full tank?[addsig]

Just pretty much happens whenever... Did you have a thought as to why it would happen after fill up or 1/4 tank???



I did mash the tank about 1 1/2 years ago on a 4-wheeling adventure and since then I have been having a problem with my float hanging on the fuel pump tub...



One other thing i noticed today at lunch: My guage tends to swing about wildly... one moment I'll have 1/4 tank the next i'll have 3/4 tank... It just seems to me elecricity is not getting to the fuel pump and shutting it off...



I think I read somewhere that a bad ground will make the guage read over full and a bad hot wire will make it read empty (or something like that)... Maybe here is where I read it... =)[addsig]

Ok, figured it out...



About 3 weeks ago, took my Jeep® to the dealer for recall work (parking brake assembly)... It seems that whenever I set the parking brake, it is pinching a wire and causing a ground...

Needless to say, I'll be taking the Jeep® in this afternoon and raising holy hell...
