catalytic converter question

i have an 02 wrangler with a 4.0 and i was wondering if i took off the cat would my engine light come on since i have all my sensor in front of my cat.
2 before the precats and 2 after.

the local dodge garage couldnt give me a definate answer.

Welcome to jeepz.

Your check engine light will come on due to the o2 sensor after the cat. Late model engines don't have a whole lot to gain by removing the catalytic converter anyway.

If you're having problems with it, they're covered under a 8yr80K mile Federal Emissions warranty.

ALL of your sensors are in front of the actual cat? i haven't heard of this concept really. maybe i'm just not up to times

like i said all the sensors sre in front of the cat,i have 2 sensors in the manifold and then 2 after the precats,there is none in front of,or behind the main cat,the reason i ask this is because i want to run true duel exhaust.

and i know removing my cat is illegal,but it dont matter here where i live because they dont check for that at inspection stations here.

so i guess im trying to say is ,if i just leave the 2 precats on and run duel exhaust back into 2 flowmasters will my engine light come on?

From the sound of it, if your sensors are between the cat and the precat, I don't see that removing the cat would make any difference on the sensors. I'm not a mechanic or an exhaust expert, but I play one on the internet.

has anyone ever heard of an 02 sensor reading how much back pressure your exhaust has,thats what they are telling me at dodge,

NO, and I don't think you'll have any trouble if in fact your sensors are setup like you describe. I'll have to take a closer look at an '02+ TJ sometime.

I know on my 97 the sensor(s) are before the cat... but mines definately different than his in some ways cuz I dont have pre-cats...

I cleaned out my cat and ny light came on after about a week... It ran like crap so I unplugged it and now it runs fine, but the light is still on..

I have seen a bypass module for about $25 at www.bakerelectronix.com...
says this thing willl make the light go out , but I havent tried it yet...
