Bikini Top

I want a bikini top for my Jeep. Are there any tops that are easy to put on without any drilling. I pick up my daughter from school everyday and if it looks like rain that day I want to be able to quickly remove it and put the top up. Most days I have the top and doors off and would like to be able to block some of that summer sun. Quick and easy is what I want. If I want no bikini top it should be easy to remove, If I feel like having it on I want the able to throw it on before I leave for work in the morning. Is there such a thing out there? The ones I see on Quadratec say 1 hour installation. Is this for each time you put it on? How long to take off?

Someone educate me on bikinis. ;)

Southj,

Let me know what you find out, as I have been looking for the same thing. But all the ones I have found require to install a channel on the windshield, and since I use a hardtop, this means putting the channel on on Fridays (when I take my top off) and putting it back on on Sundays (when I put the hard top back on). To me, it just seems too complicated. But now that summer is around, it gets REALLY HOT in the afternoons, so I need something to block out the sun!

I have a sun bonett for sale. It's EOM (I think that's the right abbr) and goes on just like the soft top. No drilling or hardware needed. PM me and I will send pics when I get home if you're interested.

Most any windshield channel will work with a hard top. The hard top will fit in a groove at the back of the channel. As for installing it, i drilled my first one into my fiberglass windshield frame. BAD IDEA!! at highwy speeds the screws riped out. The best thing I have found from personal experence and from talking to other people, is toss the mounting hardware, and use Gorilla Glue. The stuff makes super glue look like masking tape! My windshield channel has been on for two years, nooo problemo.

I have a no drill header and bikini top layin' around, I beleive its for a TJ up to 2002 (as it came off a TJ and the header isn't right for my 2003). I think it's the half top though

I have the channel from my soft top, but the hard top instructions said to remove the soft top channel before installing the hard top. So a couple of questions:

1. Will my channel work for a bikini top? I have a Best-top replace a top soft top...
2. Will I be able to install the 2 piece hard top ON TOP of the channel without any problems? It seems to me that doing so would raise the front of the hardtop, letting air (and maybe even some water) in, and this could cause the front fo the hard top to be ripped out; or am I just being too paranoid? My hard top is the Pavement Ends targa Top, and from my experience, it is not the most thought out hard top (I have had problems with leaks, which involved resealing the rear window, and also with the pressure buildup when closing the doors, which means I have to open the vent of the Jeep before closing the doors!).

Once you've installed your bikini top how long does it take to remove it? Is it just a few minutes? It says an hour to install but is this just for the first time?

5 minutes tops on a CJ/YJ type. If a TJ bikini top hooks like the factory softtop, it would be even quicker. Worse case... 5 min. On another note, it took roughly 15 minutes to install. Measure for center, pre-drill holes, screw in header, hook top, done.

The hard top has to be off. The channel is what your weatherstripping sits against on the front of your hardtop.

I bought a Bestop combo the other day, bikini, tonneau, windjammer and all the parts, and I knew this was going to happen, they sent a drill header. So last night I went out and just placed it to see how it would install and it appears I could do it without taking the hard top off but I don't want to screw it up. Right now, I have received 14 inches of rain in 3 days and they are calling for more so I guess I need to quit being impatient and just wait until I can take the top off. Thanks,
