    304 rear main oil leak

Nothing on the back of the engine is wet. I had a leak on a valve cover but I fixed that a while ago. Everything on the engine as far as gaskets and seals are new. I had the short block rebuilt- new rings, new bearings, new seals and I rebuilt the heads and intake with all new gaskets. All...

    304 rear main oil leak

I pulled the oil sender out and taped all the threads. It was dripping oil there but not enough to cause the leak I'm getting on the back of the engine. My oil sender unit in toward the front of the engine on the passenger's side, not close to the bell housing. I tightened the oil pan up a...

    304 rear main oil leak

I have a 304 V8 that has been completely rebuilt. All new gaskets, seals, piston rings- the whole thing. I have an oil leak dripping from the bell housing. It has leaked since it has been running again. There was a leak in the valve covers and I got that one stopped with new gaskets. I have...

    Brake pressure switch wiring?

79 CJ-7. When searching online I found a thread where the two wires from the firewall were spliced together to connect to the one wire P-valve. I have the opposite situation; one wire from the Painless wiring harness and two wires from the P-valve. What do I connect to the other wire from the...

    Brake pressure switch wiring?

I have only one wire in the Painless wiring harness for the brake pressure switch, but the connection has two wires. How do I connect these? Can I connect the one harness wire to both wires from the proportioning valve?

    Brake wiring help

Need help connecting plug for brake lights to Painless wiring harness. I have a '79 CJ-7. The wires coming from the brake lights are red, yellow and white. I know the red wire is for the backup lights and connects to one of the white wires on the corresponding plug on the harness. What are...

    Wiring harness questions

Thanks guys for all your help. I found that there was a resistive wire on the old harness and I connected that into the ignition module like the diagram from Painless showed. I tried to crank the Jeep yesterday. I think the timing is still off and it is not getting gas but the wiring seems to...

    Wiring harness questions

greg92jeepxj, the big red wire that goes to the "Maxi-fuse" and connects to the positive battery post on the solenoid comes from the fuse box. This would provide power to the fuse box and the way it is connected is how the diagram shows it in the manual. So, should I connect the pink #720 wire...

    Wiring harness questions

69jeepcj, I'm just using the diagram in the instructions, that's how it shows to wire this up. I hasn't made sense to me because all the wires are not there. greg92jeepxj, where is the neutral safety switch? The red/blk wire on the coil connector was already there. I cut that from the old...

    Wiring harness questions

I am trying to install a Painless wiring harness in my 79 CJ-7. It has a 304 V8 and I do not understand the connections from the electronic ignition to the coil to the solenoid. The diagram in the instructions mentions wires that are not present in the harness. I am not sure what the resistor...

    79 CJ7 - The Beginning

Here are more pics on this build. I know I haven't updated in a long time. Just a Painless wiring harness standing in the way of starting her up again.

304 V8 fuel and vac lines underhood

Thank you all 69jeepcj, greg92jeepxj, and PoliceMonkey161. All your advise has helped get everything back in the places that at least the diagrams say they should be. I am working on a Painless wiring harness and once I get that all connected I can try and start the Jeep. It has been a long...

304 V8 fuel and vac lines underhood

There is not an air pump on this engine. Thanks, it has been a long time since I took this thing apart. Just need these hoses connected properly and the wiring harness installed and hopefully it will start!!! Keep your fingers crossed.

304 V8 fuel and vac lines underhood

Ok, here are some wider pics of the manifold where these connections are located. A lot of what you have all suggested is very helpful. I will be trying to go connection by connection and see if I can't get everything hooked up properly.

304 V8 fuel and vac lines underhood

The first pic is the connector on the back of the thermostat housing. It seems that every diagram I see has something different attached here. The second pic is a three pronged connection that is attached directly to the manifold. The one hose connected here is the EGR. Don't know if that is...
