Ok with the limited info here I am going to assume you have a "C" clip type axle. Dana 35.
To pull the spiders you have a long torx head bolt in your carrier that holds in the center pin, that holds the two cross spider gears. once the pin and gears are out tap the axels in a bit to remove the "C" clips. Mark the clips left and right.
When you unbolt the carrier bearing bolts you need to mark the bearing caps left and right, and top hole and bottom.
The carrier should have a slight preload and should take some pulling to remove. We use a slide hammer with a chain looped through the carrier.
( If your shims are on the outside of the bearings carefully collect them and pile them in a left and right side pile. )
Reverse the order for installing it. Bearing caps are torqued to 75 foot pounds.
Check back-lash to make sure you got the shims right.
You don't need to remove the carrier to remove and replace the spider gears.
D35:
Remove diff cover.
Remove 1/4" 12pt. bolt (not torx as previously mentioned) holding carrier cross shaft in place, remove cross shaft.
Push each rear tire/drum inward until you can remove the c-clips inside the side gears.
Pull axleshafts outward until they clear the side gears in carrier.
Side gears and spider gears should rotate out of carrier.
Install is reverse of removal.
D30:
Same as above but hubs have to be removed from knuckles in order to pull the axleshafts outward to clear the side gears.
Carrier cross shaft is held in place with a roll pin that will need to be driven out with a punch.
I haven't tried this, but you may be able to remove/replace the spiders and side gears without pulling the axleshafts outward on a D30. Try rotating the spider gears out of the carrier once the cross shaft is removed, this may give enough room to slide the side gears off the axleshaft splines and out of the carrier.
well guys i got it out...but there were no c-clips...i had to unbolt a keeper from behind the breaks and slide the axles out...the tap out a roll pin...the carriere did have to come out to...i guess i could have tapped the roll pin out with it inside but i took it to work and smoothed out the rough gouges the teeth made...
no big deal though...it was alot easier than i thought it would be...this is the first time i had ever done this...but when you get it apart it;s pretty straight forward...
