Hey guys. im trying to get a snorkle for my 91 yj. i dont want to buy one because i dont have $350. so i my other choise is to make one. im just not sure how to make it, what to make it out of and how i could fit an air filter between the top of it and the throtle body. does anyone know of any diagrams on the web? or have any of you done this yourself? thanks for your help.

Run a tube (or flex tube) from the TB through the fender and into a solid tube (aluminum or pvc) going up the side of the jeep with a cone filter on top. Maybe make an enclosure or shield for the filter?

Hey, check it out, I just found this... just what I was visuallizing! Only mine would be much nicer looking.

cool! thanks a lot. i bought some of that flex duct stuff that he used about a week ago but i wasnt sure if that would be too crapy or not. i think im gonna use it. if i use 3" pvc instead of 2", do you think it would help with air flow? if the filter is open at the top, wouldnt water get in there when it rains?
thanks A LOT for the writeup. it really helped.

Use an oil air filter... maybe an K&N. The rain shouldn't hurt it too much since it will just run off the side cause it's all oily. If I were you I would try to make the outside downtube out of aluminum, that way it will cool the air before it reaches your throttle body. (theoretically)

Here's a home made snorkel on a '92 YJ:

He blocked off the factory intake and put a pvc pipe out of the opposite side of the snorkel intake. He caps it off while offroading, so it will then only draw air through the snorkel. While on the road it takes in through the snorkel and side of the box.

Nice setup using the stock airbox and a drop-in K&N, although you could do a prettier job if you care to.

This Jeep was in JP about 8? years ago.
