YJ plans

I want another YJ. The CJ isn't too far from being done, and when it is....it's sold. Trying to figure out what I'm going to do now, so I can go ahead and start shopping.
I want to run the 6" Monolinear SUA kit from Skyjacker, a 2-3" BL, and TJ flares over 38" TSLs. I want a carbed 258/automatic combo so I can either hop that up, or easily bolt in an AMC V8. I haven't quite settled on axles yet. I've got a few questions though.

?1. I know the D300 will bolt in place of the NP231, so I'm leaning towards that. If I bolt a D300 up to a transmission that had an NP231 on it, how will the D300 be clocked? Will the positioning allow a passenger side drop without any more modifications?

?2. Has anyone here used or have any eperience with the D300 flip kit that allows you to use a drivers side differential with that Tcase?

?3. Did all of the early 258 powered YJs that had automatics come with the 999Torqueflite 3 speed, or was there another one used too?

You know I was playing with this option in my head as well. I have a D44 HD (8 lug version) out of a 3/4 ton chevy but it is a passenger side diff. You will most likely need to modify the exhaust (not too tough) but the steering will probably need to be altered slightly. But This I am not sure. (Trying to do vissuals in my head) Might need a clocking ring? with out it, Might hang a little too low.

A buddy of mine is running a flipped D300 behind a 350 V8 and a Tremec T5 transmission out of a stang. I know you wante the amc/auto set up so I am not too sure, but the added durability of the gear drive, low gearing, short running length, and twin stick are real nice. he has had no complaints

I dunno, get a 5 speed!

With 2-3 Inch body lift, you won't have to worry about it hitting anything. You could probably almost clock it with the standard adapter ring. I think a flip kit comes with a clocking ring.
The good news is with a clocked case and 2-3 inches of body lift, you can run a flat skid pan.
What axle questions are there? GO one ton and your done. (that kind of has a nice ring to it)

Thanks for the responses.
I've gone off in a completely different direction for now...... A buddy of mine that owns a garage made me an offer that I'm thinking I shouldn't refuse. Two SJs for $500, they both run and drive fine. One has a 360 and the body is in good enough shape, the other I haven't seen but it has a 304 and the body needs alot of work. The engines and underhood accessories are worth that. The YJ may have to wait a while.
If nothing else, I can take my worked 360 cylinder heads off the CJ before I sell it and swap a set off one of those engines. My factory 304 heads are shot and I wasn't looking forward to giving up my $built$ set with the Jeep.

If you're gonna be swapping out axles, I'd suggest a spring over rather than the monolinear kit. That thing is expensive. The SOA can be done for about 1/5 the cost. Just my opinion. Oh yeah... YJ's rule.

yea soa with 2.5" leafs and a bl outa do you incredibly good, plus soa flexes better, go high pinion d 60 in the rear and a d44 in the front or d60 if you dont trust it,
Oh yeah... YJ's rule.
damn right...

also a consideration, revolver shackles, z boxes, extra long shock mounts, (lose the fenders or go through them), super long brake linesand 4 way coil over shocks!
