Wiring: york oba, cigarette lighter socket, radio

drive train problem

OK, I bought a york 210 compressor for oba, a cigarette ligher socket so i can hook up my CB (it plugs into a cigarette lighter), a 9" auxiliary fan for "just in case," and still need to install my radio. I have relays and switches for the fan and york compressor, but that's it. As for the radio, does anyone know what type of fuse it takes? It looks like it doesn't take a standard fuse. I basically know nothing about wiring...Anyone know how to hook these things up?

You mean an actual fuse on the CB it self, or a fuse that the cigarette lighter goes through?

If you mean the fuse for the cigarrette lighter (which the cb will hook into) it would just be whatever the standard for cigarrette lighters is. Sorry I can't remember off the top of my head what that was...

Oh there are two radios, a sony cd/am/fm and a cb. I need to wire a cigarette lighter socket into the fuse box so i can use the CB, and need to wire the sony directly into the fuse box. I just need the standard fuses for them, but it looks like the fuse box won't fit the usual 2-prong fuses that are red and blue and so on.

RE: Come Chat With Me!

oh woops. I didn't realize there were two things going on there!

Sorry, I can't be of much help then.

well if your wireing your cb in then all you need is called a buss fuse it basicaly a round hollow tube of glass with two endcaps of metal and a filamint in it which heats up and burns apart if too much amperage runs through it you should be able to get them at any parts store just discribe it as i just did.if you need to wire in a intire ciggerett socket then you might want to get a friend who knows how to wire into the fuse box. it would be hard to discribe it to you. or just see how much it would cost to have a stereo installer do it with the stereo

that is unless i'm wronge and it has maxie fuses in it which are the tiny lil fuses used in more modern cars.
if so just show it to the parts guy at a parts store and he'll help you find what you need

RE: drive train problem

As for your radio, if you're asking what the standard fuse is in the fusebox, mine is a 15 amp.
For the cigarette lighter plug for your CB, I may be wrong but I think you should look at the amperage rating of your CB and have the fuse for the cigarette lighter plug close to the same rating as the CB. ...could be wrong though, I'm no expert in this area.

RE: Re: RE: personal recs. on tires

Gary,

There's no fuse that goes in the fusebox (best I can tell). The single female connection you're looking at in the box is the female end of the power lead for the radio (red wire). It's not a standard fitting, it's proprietary. A blue male spade connector (any parts store) on the end of the red wire should stick right into the slot. Make sure that you have an inline fuse (buss fuse described earlier). The yellow wire on the radio needs constant hot (to keep time & station memory). You'll see a similar connection on your fuse box labeled "clock". Use that for your yellow wire, with an inline fuse.

Cig lighter / CB: If you want the cig outlet ALWAYS on, tie it's power to the yellow on your radio and put another inline fuse on it. If you want power to cut when the key is off, tie it's power to the red wire on your radio.

IMHO, your best bet would be to wire both the radios inthe ignition harness(assuming the factory radio harness is missing from your cj). T tap and solder (sp) Off the radio(sony, the yelow wire will be put to a constant 12 volt source while the red will be put to a 12 volt ignition switch. I would (personally) cut the light part of the CB off and hard wire, But I am begining to believe you bought a hand held unit so... go to the local parts store and pick up a lighter/12 volt accessory and wire it into either the constant or switch you used for the radio ( depends on whether you want it to have power all the time or only with the key) as for the york and oba, you will need to simply take the wire off the clutch on the compressor and wire it into pressure switch that will most likely be on the tank.
