Which optima battery for winching yellow deep cycle or just the red top? Has anyone here run the red top in some serious winching situations, if so how has it held up?

Hi,

The yellow top deep cycle would be the best choice for high-amperage applications.
Deep cycle batteries can tolerate deeper discharges without being damaged like a regular battery.

I got three red tops and there all dead. Never let them go dead and freeze. They wont come back. Ill take a sears diehard thanks. Leave the jeep out all winter and it starts with the diehard everytime.

Iam with joe.
Only I use Interstate. Dont see the reason for a sealed battery unless its for some special application... I do like the spiral Cells, But I dont see the diffrence.
I had a SVR Audio Series ALSO Sucked Big Time.

My last red top lasted 5 1/2 years. My last die hard gold lasted 2 1/2 years. $120 for the red top, $85 for the die hard. Do the math. I will never buy anything but optimas for any of my vehicles. I imagine if you completely drain your diehard in the middle of winter and let it freeze you will have the same results. Oh, and the optimas do have a warranty, because I got around $20 bucks towards a new one when I took my 5 1/2 year old battery in. I would suggest you take the 3 red tops in and get them replaced under warranty (and maybe properly store them next time, just a suggestion  )

Interstate makes some 6-volt gell cells that you could use in series. I have them in my motor home. They run the hole house heat and all, all night without starting the car. They dont leak since there gel. I just dont like the spiral cells in really cold weather unless you use the car every day. A regular wet cell might freeze a little and slush up but theres plenty of room inside for expansion. The spiral cells freeze and must break or something and cause a short inside the battery.
