Whats going on guys. My Yj had major steering slop, were it took a big turn of the steering wheel for the tires to actually turn. With my mechanic we adjusted the steering by tightning the little screw it has on the power steering to the point were the jeep had almost no slop. So today I take it for a spin and man it felt so unstable! I dont have vibrations or anything like that but man its getting scary to drive on pavement. It feels like the jeep is all over the place! What do you guys recomend I change or fix? steering stabilizer? worn rubber parts on the steeting linkage? Once again thanks alot.

Where to start...
Check all the bushings in the springs, track bar, etc. Also the tie rod ends and drag link. If all that seems to be in good order, then jack up the front end and shake the wheels to see if there is any slop in the ball joints or bearings.
The problem may still be in the steering box. It is rare that one goes out altogether. Your mechanic just adjusted the play between the gears by tightening the screw. It is not supposed to be super tight, merely snug.
Have you recently done a lift, spring over or anything of that nature?

Umm...I recently put a 4 inch rustys kit, its spring under. Bushings in the springs are new so i dont think its that. Front track bar is on with the extension that the kit brought. Rear track bar is off since i read that it was not really necesary. Iam not really sure what the tie rod end is or the drag link, if you are refering to the rubber parts that is between all the steering links, I dunno what a bad one looks like? hope this helps.redrooster said:

The rubber part is merely a dust cover on the tierod end, and works to keep grease in and grime out.
Have somebody watch each steering joint closely while somebody else turns the steering wheel. Watch for slop.
