i just got a simple question about a yj. the guy in the shop next to mine is retiring and is looking to sell his yj, the sucker is old and needs some love. i was under it lastnight and saw that it had the vacumm disconect front axel. is there any way to get rid of that? can i just pull that whole shaft and put in anouther one? one that is not in two pieces? i already have a xj and the sucker runs great and i am thinking of just getting this thing for summer so i can ride around with the roof off. please let me know if there is a way to kill the vacumm axel

The vacuum disco isn't all that bad, I wouldn't let it sway you from a purchase.

If you really must get rid of it, you can simply replace it with a 1-piece shaft from an XJ or TJ. You have to get a special axle seal, I don't have the model number, but there are kits out there.

If you don't want to go through the trouble, simply remove the disconnect (4 bolts), engage the shift collar, and replace the disconnect upside down. This will hold the disconnect engaged permanently.
