I just got a re-man ax-5 and have a couple of questions.

1. the right fluid to use. (understand the factory recommendation eats
syncros)
2. I guess I'll change the clutch while its open. Any recommendation?

3. thinking new exhaust from end to end. Contemplating header.

My YJ = '94 2.5 four banger with 31" tires

any help would be appreciated. thanks

Best fluid possible is Redline MT90 available at www.summitracing.com or finer performance shops. It's a full-synthetic that's specially formulated to be easy on the synchros. Smooth cold weather shifts as well.

I would use an OEM clutch, don't waste the money on a performance clutch as stock Jeep I4 and I6 engines don't need the extra holding power. Check out www.carolinaclutch.com for good prices. I like the LUK brand clutch, it's high quality OEM replacement.

A header may increase top-end performance, but I think that's money better spent elsewhere. Install a cat-back and call the exhaust done. Check the exhaust manifold front and rear studs to make sure they're intact, it's common for them to break.

Install a 4.0L throttle body and spacer, with an airtube and conical K&N and you'll be making quite a bit more power with quicker throttle response.

For the best 2.5L performance info, check out the 4Bangers United Forum.

Pennzoil Synchromesh is another good choice for the trans fluid. They stock it at Autozone.

The owners manual, Chiltons, and Haynes all reccomend GL5 but that is incorrect. If you go to a dealer they will sell you GL3 which is the correct "regular" trans fluid. For what they will want to charge you for it it would be smarter to go with Redline or the Synchromesh.
