A couple of weekends ago, I went camping with a bunch of my family. My cousin showed up in a 2000 TJ (pretty cool, I didn't know he had one). He had driven from Illinois to Kansas in it, and said that each time he met a big truck, his hood would blow up to the limits of the safety catch. We got to looking at his latches, and realized the rubber strap was very soft. I could lift his hood up to the safety catch with very little effort with one finger. After I got back home, I looked at the two TJ's we have on the car lot I work at. Sure enough, they were just as bad. Anyone else notice this? Anyone have an idea to fix it, short of new latches? One of the TJ's on the lot is a 2003, so it's not just because the latches are old, so I'm thinking new ones wouldn't make much difference. The temps were in the 50's that weekend, so it's not a temperature problem.
