TJ disconnects

i heard on a TJ that you don't have to disconnect the sway bar when off-roading. is this true? i read it straight out of mark a smith's book.

That's correct, but if you want about 20% - 30% more articulation on the trail you would disconnect. On leaf sprung jeeps you can disconnect the front track bar also. I drove mine once on the road with the sway bar disconnected going from one trail to another and didn't like it. Constantly compensating to keep it staight.

you get 3X the articulation when you disconnect. If you do have aftermarket disconnects then it isn't a real good Idead not to disconnect due to the stress you put on the Pins/threads of the disconnect.

I removed my rear Sway bar totally so that I could get more rear Articulation also and there isn't much noticable difference . . . Note: I said Sawy bar not Trac-Bar.

you never have to disconnect the sway bar.. but it always helps...... you will be amazed at the difference. If you are stock, replace the lower bolts with pin & clip - about $7 at home depot.. well worth it.

Some seats on ebay...

before my soa... i had my swaybar off all the time... it was still there, but disconnected... after my soa, i needed it... there was no question there...
