I have a front Dana 44 Waggy axle. How do you tighten those nut type things on the inside of the hub? Is there a special tool that is required?

RE: Re: RE: Name That Jeep

as far as i know, its a 36mm socket? a picture would be better than "nut type things" the only other thing i can think of is that your talking about a locking ring with a lockwasher and the tab and holes but i dunno otherwise

In his D44 he has the locknuts that take the special wrench. Kind of like the same deal some Fords use. They are about the size of a normal locknut, with round(?) notches cut into the edge for the tool to grab ahold of.......or am I thinking of something else?

I think what you need is a spline socket. They are standard and any parts place will stock them. It is good to have one in your toolbox.

This is great, now I get to go buy a one-time-use tool. Don't you just love that!

BryanJeep, is that the thing you are looking for?? If so, I'm sure knecht's or someplace like that would let you rent one. They offered me one to rent last time I bought one of those tools for a FF14 bolt.

Yup, that is it. I am going to see if Autozone rents that out. Thanks guys!

heck for five bucks get it off ebay and keep it in case you ever blow a bearing, if your gonna be in the mud a lot that might be a good investment
