RE: Steering problem after stuck, HELP!!!

I ASKED A MACHINE SHOP TO MAKE ME A DRIVESHAFT, HERES WHAT I WANTED....
DOUBLE CV ON ONE END THAT BOLTS ON TO THE TRANSFERCASE, SLIP IN THE MIDDLE AND SINGLE U JOINT ON THE OTHER THAT BOLTS TO THE YOLK, 1350 JOINTS FOR ALL AND THEY WANTED OVER 600 BUCKS TO MAKE IT.
DOES THAT SOUND RIGHT? I WAS GOING TO BRING THEM ALL THE PIECES ALL THEY HAD TO DO IS WELD EVERYTHING TOGETHER AND BALANCE IT........ I THINK I ALMOST GOT RIPED OFF

That would definatly be a rip-off!!

I got my front drive line for my Chevy made about a month ago. All brand new tubing, joints, ground the stops off, double CV on one end, single u-joint on the other, slip in middle and 1 ton joints for $375. And, that included balancing, painting, and everything else to make it a direct bolt-on.

I got it done at a driveline shop.

About the only thing missing was a little butter.. That price is off the mark unless we're talking extreme gear/specs.

I think that is the lone reason for the different experiences you and 88wrangles had trying to have a Dshaft made. Alot of machine shops might not be setup for that work. Right now I'm not, but I could do it if you really wanted me to.....but it would cost you alot of money. The guy might not have wanted to do it either. $600 is a crazy price even if it included parts. It's not that the driveshaft would be worth $600, but he might have to pull off of another job where he COULD be making $600. I wouldn't assume its a cut and dry case of him trying to be a crook, but I'd find another shop to make my shaft!

I agree with Junkpile. He'd probably have to retool to do that job. So there would have been a lot of expense in it for him. I used to get the CV joints in my driveshafts on the old Toy done at a semi-truck driveline shop in Wichita....pretty cheap, but I don't remember how much.

RE: Diff Questions

wow i guess that price is pretty steep no one has even come close to saying that it sounds ok hehehehe, i guess ill go shop around and give tom woods a call thanks guys

RE: Got CB installed

call hi-angle, theyre cheaper than tom woods and more personable. tom has gotten to the point he rarely ever answers the phone, ive never talked to him and not many people i kno have recently. used to be that he would always answer the phone. jesse at hi-angle will be more than willing to help you out. also word is is that tom woods uses an inferior cv design on the inner part of it and that hi angle's is better and lasts longer. several people in my club have had problems with their tom woods cv joints going bad

wow i just read that artical about the 1350 drive shaft, i am amazed of all the good things that was said, im deffinatly gunna give jesse a call and speak to him abou tme set up thanks 88
