Couple issues:

1. Fuel comes out my gas cap on steep inclines... is there a gasket or something that goes with that old aluminum gas cap, or do I need a new one?
2. My engines constantly sputters and boggs on declines... Is there something out there for this... like an OFF-Road carb or something?
3. It has a four speed Manual transmittion, which is great for some things, but TERRIBLE for steep hills and tuff spots on weird angles, is there a strong AUTO I can swap into this?
4. OK OK.. last question folks.. sorry... T-case shifter is SUPER STIFF/ STUCK. IT is almost impossible for me to get out of 4L. Is this common, and what do you suggest. I tried degreasing the linkage and lubricating, which helped a little, but I think there is more to that story.

Thanks in advance for all who respond to my many questions...

1. You need a new cap w/a gasket
2.Your carter carb is crap, you need a weber or motorcraft
3.It will be hard to stuff an auto in a 5, and still have any rear drive shaft, 7s were made so they could fit an auto
4.Back up about 6" when disengaging 4lo and then yank the hell outta the shaft, u wont hurt anything.

Awesome.. thanks for the quick answers. Where is a good place to get a Weber or Motorcraft carb?
Which one do you think is better for hills and off-road only use? I will try that method to disengage...
Im not all that worried about hurting it, they are pretty tuff little trucks.

Thanks again.

jc whitney sells the weber I think. I have one on my 80 cj5 renagade. I need someone to tune it. It runs like crap.

Cheapest Weber is on Ebay for around $299. Yeah they're high, but they're the best you can get without swapping in an aftermarket intake manifold (which with a new carb goes >$500). I've had my weber for about 5-6 years. LOTS more power, and runs 1000 times better than the factory carb. (even ran with the jeep on it's side  ) Got one on my jeep and gonna put one on the wife's as soon as I get my credit cards paid off....
