oil pressure

broken spring hanger

Well I've started driving my jeep around alot more, and noticed that the oil pressure averages about 15-20 at low rpms, and gets to about 35 right before I shift; a little lower than when I posted before. Cruising around with 15-20psi of oil just seems low to me. Is there any way to bring up the pressure? Maybe a higher viscosity oil? Oh and then engine has been inclined to dying lately when I put it in nuetral...The carter is rebuilt, though.

RE: Boxers or Briefs?

From other posts I've read here and elsewhere, that sounds about normal. Mine ran about that if not a little lower until I rebuilt the engine. Now it starts out about 70 until it warms up and then varies from just under 40 to about 60. But remember, that's with a fresh rebuild. No help on the carb. I'm in the process of installing a Motorcraft in place of a Weber myself.

I wouldn't worry about it.. you are fine. If you want to raise the pressure you need to replace the oil pump.

RE: AMC 20 identification

At your next oil change, add a can of "Restore Engine Restorer" first, and then add your oil. This stuff really does help. My 2.5L has over 170K miles on it and my oil pressure was just like yours. I've been running this Restore crap for 6 months now (2 oil changes) and my pressure stays around 30 at idle and 40 at 2500 rpms. It also added a little lost power due to the lack of oil pressure.

It does take about 300 miles before you notice a change, so add it, and be patient. Let me know if you have any questions.
