Looking for a Remmedy

last time out 4wheelin i snapped a U-Joint that was an easy fix.... now that ive got the joint replaced and im re-hooking everything back up i cant get the shaft to seperate any at all.......... im comming up about a half inch to short of the shaft connecting to the front diff........... how can i get the shaft to seperate ive tried pulling it apart and tapping it with a hammer with a thick rag over it cause i dont have deadblow hammer..... but nothing seems to work..... any help would be greatly appreciated

what if its already seperated as far as it will go ?
what type of jeep Year model ? what mods have you done.. ? 3 listed in your sig.

i got it fixed but it was for the CJ-7 .............. the yoke just had gotten compressed to far down and gotten dirt in it ............ little degreaser and a friends deadblow hammer and it was fixed
