Keepin the alternator alive?

I had my alternator die on me after my first time useing my winch. I had a optima blue top and a mile marker 9000. Was it just old 111,000 miles or did I do something wrong. I upgraded to a 117 amp alternator. Does water do any thing? I never submersed it but it definately got its share of splash. Is there any thing I should do? thanks

Get a higher amp unit from a junkyard or www.car-parts.com . You need part #56027913, it's a 136amp unit found in 97-98 Dakotas, 98 Durango, 97-98 Dodge Ram Pickup, 97-98 Dodge Bseries van, 97-98 Grand Cherokee.

Probably just age.
