I am putting on a body lift and i stripped the 2 front bolts on the driver side and the passenger side rear is broken off inside the threads. how can i go about getting these out??? the front driver side bolt is stripped inside the body and the middle bolt is broken about 1.5" out. these are the only thing keeping me from driving my YJ. I think i am just going to cut out the bolts and use nuts and lock-washers and large washers to hold them in. any thoughts???

I think having to cut one or two out is pretty standard for older Jeeps. Just do like you are planning and use nuts and bolts. Make sure to use new grade 8 hardware though.

What you propose is a kosher fix - I built truck bodies for 32 years & that makes me a court certified expert!
Just remember to smooze some crap on the threads so that if you ever want to take it apart again you might stand a fighting chance.

what is this "crap" you speek of???? i thought i was supposed to put lock tite on the threads so they wouldnt come off so easily??

I use antiseize or grease so they come back off when I need them to.

You often need to cut a U shape in the tub over the body bolts to get to the topside. Bend the flap open and then shut when finished and you can weld it closed. Or seal with silicone so you can access it down the road.

what about the one on the right rear? how do I get to that one??? can i do it through the inner fender in the rear????

UPDATE: I finally finished the body lift today!! i had to go through the inner fender in the rear and cut out an access panel for the body bolt. same as the other two on the driver side ( right below the seat and at the "dead pedal"). now i am waiting on the radiator from O'Reily's to get here tomorrow.... yeah, accidentally hit it with the arc welder... Hopefully i will get to post up some pics of what i have done to get these out and an updated pic on the look.

I've got a couple of body mount bolts to attack on my '98 TJ. Does anyone have any pics of where they ended up cutting? I'm just trying to avoid making too big of a mess of my floors. I'm leaning towards the holesaw method, and it doesn't lend itself to adjustment as well as the "cut and peel" method, so I'd rather not miss...

For such a common problem, I haven't found much in the way of illustrations or pics.

I'm primarily after the passenger front, and driver rear but I might just go in and shore up the others for good measure.

Any help appreciated.
