Hard top and trans question

End of an Era

I have an 88 yj with a soft top and half doors. I just purchased an 83 cj7, doese anyone know if I can swap the hard top from the cj to the yj?

The cj has a bad transmission (broken case), any one know of a good replacement that bolts directly in in place of the original t-5? I don't have the money now to get fance and change motors and buy adaptors but that will come later.

I'm pretty sure the CJ7 and YJ hardtops are interchangeable. You'll run into fitment issues with the soft door uppers, the stock uppers have a squared off upper rear corner and the hardtop needs a rounded corner like the full steel doors.

RE: Poll Topic: Loncoln Locker vs. Detroit SofLock

A T-176 4 speed will bolt right in and add some durability, though you will need the driveshafts out of a cj with the T-176. Unless the jeep sees (or will see) heavy use, I would just stick with a T-5 for the better gear ratios.

And I will say a 99% positive yes. :D

I had a CJ7 hardtop that a guy bought and he brought his '89 or '90 Wrangler to pick it up

But if I remember correctly none of the mounting holes lined up or most of them did not.
