Getting New Tires Finally

A friend owes me some $$ and has a brand new set of Mud King 31x10.5's he is giving me to cover the balance. That's finally good news after my latest spate of bad luck with the old POS GMC. My question: Will 31's fit under my stock '94 YJ? I am planning a 2" lift, but that will be way down the road financially. My current tires are 28's, BFG A/T's, and are in dire need of replacement, so I have to get tires soon, but don't have the $$ right now. Will they fit?

Not if your springs are a sagging very much. But whats a little rub among friends. hehehe tug

Offroad it will rub, and you might tag the flares a little bit, and your steering stops may need adjustment depending on your wheels. Just throw on some TJ flares and a one inch body lift

Mrs. Mud has 31's on her '94. They rub a little when turned to the stops, but that's about it. Can't comment about off road - I'm always driving mine.

So putting 31's on my 88 would be about the same deal right?? They'll rub a little but nothin too serious?? thanx

Do the retreads sparky. Those are pretty inexpensive.

I just took off a set of 1.25" lift shackles for the YJ. Nothing wrong with them, just too tall when coupled with my 4" suspension lift. You want them? Email me. You can see pictures of what they look like on my Jeep at my website below.

I like the way you think, Tug!!

Ok....here's another question to go with the first one:

I have a white YJ, and the tires are going on stock rims. White letters out, or black out? I'm thinking black out. Currently, the BFG's I have are white letters out......what's the general consensus here?

Here's apic of a stock yj with 31's. As you can see he trimmed the flaires partially and he still get some good rubbing in the wheel wells.

Sparky my old YJ was the first vehicle that I ever had the white letters out on. I just figured black wheels, black tires, black flares, why not? I never liked white letters but they looked decent. I just don't like cleaning them so I'll probably never do it again. hehehe

I've had white out on one other vehicle, my Toyota 4wd with BFG M/T's. I agree....cleaning them was a pain, so after the first set, it was all black out. That's also why I'm leaning toward black out on these.

Okey dokey. Got the tires mounted today!! Only rub I noticed on flat pavement was at full steering lock, the tire rubs a little against the leaf springs. Minor adjustment to either driving style or steering knuckle should fix that. I drove it up on the rock ledge lining one side of my driveway, and the rear tire just barely touches the fender flare at full stock flex (which ain't much, as you know!). If needed, I can trim the flares. Nothing comes close to rubbing on the front at full flex.

I decided to go with black outs, and I'm glad I did. I've always liked that look better than raised white letters. As mentioned earlier, cleaning is a pain, and with me, they'll never be clean anyway.......and shouldn't be on ANY Jeep!
