Distributor Swap

Actually I have an 82 Jeep CJ7 but the engine it out of a 76 I believe. It has the old style Dist on it. I was going to do the TFI upgrade and realized it wouldn't fit. I was wondering if the Dist. from a 78 or new would fit my 76 engine. I would amagine it should but I don't want to get it out and find out it won't Thanks for any info you can give me.

I forgot to tell you it is the 3.8L 232 CID.

I just took the 232 6 cyl out of my 78 CJ7. It has electronic ignition. I put a new wide style ford cap on it and a ford cap adapter, it has a 45,000 volt hot coil, 8 mm wires, and a new rotor in it. I was going to list it on E-bay but if you want it let me know. I will take $85 for it and you pay the shipping. I can send pics if you want. I only have about 25 hours on the set-up. I paid about $110 for the cap, adapter, wires, coil, rotor and module. The plugs on the module are a little melted where they got up against my header . The distributlor is in good shape . I just decided to go to a 350 Chevy last summer.

I didn't know if you got my PM or not but I thought I would post here too just incase. That does interest me alot as long as it will fit. Does anyone know if you can swap a dist. from a 78 and newer into a 76?
