I have a 2003 rubi front axle sittin under my 99 tj now. My dad and I drove to indiana to pick it up yesterday. I noticed right away the housing is much longer and I will need to shorten my ds. I bolted the whole thing on and go to put my rotor on and the friggin bolt pattern is different. Why the hell is it. Is a normal tj 4.5 on 5 and I am guessing the rubsters are 5 on5. So now I need new wheels too.

damn, that sucks. The front will now be different from the rear, which will suck as far as using a spare tire is concerned. I wish all vehicles had the same exact bolt pattern and weren't just slightly off from one another like they are-sure would make things easier. Well, good luck in figureing something out.

I think you can convert the back to 5 on 5.5. I know you can if you put on a full floater kit but I would think you could find another way.

sounds like the front might not be from a rubicon

Ya, rubi's are the same as any TJ, my friend has rubi wheels and tires on his 2002 wrangler X.

Sounds like you a couple things could be going on.
1. have a rubi dana 44 which the axles were replaced with different bolt patterns (meaning the original owner might have upgraded the rear to a D60 and swaped axles to accomidate the new bolt pattern)

2. it is a front end out of a 99+ grand cherokee which is a D30 (possibility)

3. and I highly doubt this but... you don't know how to put a wheel on a jeep.

I would say option 1.!

Getting Hardtop repainted???

its definitley a rubi 44 it has the air locker and the engagement sensor too it was a direct bolt on.

Sounds like a strange bird to me, bolted right in to the TJ but doesn't have the 5x4.5" lug pattern. Sounds like somebody may have converted it, but I don't know why they'd mess with a Rubi D44.

Rubi D44's are pretty rare, any idea why it came out of the Rubi on the first place? What do you know about the previous owner's jeep?

Okay I got it figured out. I called the jeep dealer and gave them the axle codes its a 2003 d44 from a rubicon the hubs are from a grand cheerokee they are brand new. They said whoever had the rubi must have just changed them to match if he did a full floater or somthing I went to a local drive line shop and bought new hubs 114 a piece. Drove my jeep for the first time in 3 weeks. But it was only to the frame shop for her. I cant wait to get my baby back. I will still have to regear and shorten the ds. Drivin a round without a fds. If any body is looking for hubs for a grand cheerokee let me know 5 on 5

The outers on the front D35 may be interchangeable with the Rubi D44. Investigate swapping the rotors, spindles, hubs and all from your D35 over to the Rubi 44. It may be possible.

installing axel

Glad to see it worked out, although it cost ya another $228 and the DS. Where are you getting the framework done, that place right here in Parkville (parville body or somethingorother)?

Did you have to buy new gears too?
