a customer came in the other day and we were checking out each others jeeps when he asked if i would do a total brake job on his. no problem he was willing to trade me a set of re-geared axles. a d30 and d35 with 4.10's in them. he doesnt need them and i could use the gears. heres the thing. i have the d35 with out c clips. i'm betting they have the c clips. can i put non c clip axleshafts into a c clip carrier? thanks guys and gals

Uhmm well its not as simple as swapping carriers to get the gears. Gears are highly precise pieces, and are machined as matching sets. You cannot just mix and match one ring gear with another pinion, which is what I think you plan on doing. What you can do, is take his gears out, pinion and ring gear, and order installation kits, and install them in your axles, granted you both have HP 30 axles. You will need to use his carriers though, I'm guessing you have 3.07s or something below the carrier change mark.

So here it is, order installation kits, take his gears out, take your gears out, swap them in. The axle shafts should be just fine, but I would go ahead and check that first before you start setting up the gears. If you don't know how to set up gears, you can either take them time to learn and buy the proper tools, or give it someone else to do.

You may have to reuse the c-clip carrier side gears, not sure as I haven't compared them closely. The carriers should interchange just fine.

thanks guys. i have set up gears in tractor trailers befor and never had any problems. last i knew they were still in use by ryder ... lol. i knew i needed both the ring and pinons and carriers. i have 3.07's in mine. i will probably have someone put in the gears and cariers but i wanted to know about the axle shafts themselves.

the d35 i have uses a plate on the end of the of the axleshafts to hold it in instead of the c clip, and uses a unit bearing also at the outer end. i'm not sure if the axle i am getting is a c clip or one of the three year run of axles that i am privy to owning. will i be able to use a newer style c clip carrier with my non c clip axle shafts? i was told they were the same splin cout and all. thanks guys
