Clutch Question

RE: Emoticons aka:Smileys

I recently purcased a 78 Jeep CJ7 with a 304 and T150 3 spd. The first thing I did was replace the clutch. I have done some of the more simple maintenance jobs like brake jobs and such. Well after getting everything back together the clutch is not engaging. Any ideas to what I may have over looked or what would cause this. Any help would be much appreciated.

RE: Beans or no beans in Chilli?

If it's hydrolic, did you make sure the fluid level is still topped off?

If it's mechanical, does the linkage need to be adjusted?

Those things are pretty simple, but could easily have been over looked.

By the way, WELCOME TO JEEPZ!!!!!!

RE: Re: RE: Beans or no beans in Chilli?

Thanks for the welcome. It is mechanical. The manual told me to set the free play for the pedal to an inch to an inch and a half. Just not sure what I missed as there doesn't seem to be a whole lot going on in the mechanical clutches.

RE: Re: RE: Beans or no beans in Chilli?

just a stupid question, did you by chance take out the throw out bearing and forget to re-install it?

I wish it was that easy, but nope I put it back in.

RE: Credit Card Pranks?

clutch not engaging.....does this mean that you can put the transmission in first gear and start the engine while not depressing the pedal and the Jeep won't move?? Did I misread this? More info, please. LBR

Yes you are correct. I can start the jeep with it in first gear and not touching the clutch pedal and it doesn't move.

Transfer case in neutral? LBR
