Building custom bumper and tire carrier

I am in desperate need of a tire carrier, and thus bumper. However I can't affor a $600 set up (flat broke at college, ERAU). My brother has access to a full metal shop with all kinds of welders and cutters. I was wondering if anyone had built their own bumpers or tire carriers. If so do you still have the plans? I was thinking of a design similar to the Warn bumper and carrier. Thanks

take 2x4x3/16 wall tubing and cut it to whatever length you want. then take and buy a trailer spindle and drill the top of the bumper for it. put the trailer spindle in and weld it on top and bottom of the bumper. then get some tubing to fit the bearings, get smaller tubing to sleave inside of it for the races to sit on. then get 2x2x3/16 for the swing arm. the center beam of my swing arm was about 21 inches tall. triangulate on both sides of the vertical part of the swing arm and use some sort of positive latch, like a destaco and dont use a pin style, they wallow out eventually

Before I bought mine I was planning on building one. I found lots of different plans on the internet just by searching for jeep bumpers. They had all the plans including how they built the hinge for the swing out carrier and the lock pin to hold it in place.
