Body Lift Questions

Hey folks,

Currently, I am running 32" tires with a 2" spacer life. I'd like to add about one more inch to make sure nothing rubs too often offroad.

Currently, I am feeling no driveline vibes. If I were to add a 1" body lift, would I be feeling vibes? I'd assume I would need a transfer case lowering kit. I'd like to avoid motor mounts, because it sounds like that can be a pain and cause further problems. Would a drop kit be enough to keep my current steering fine?

Opinions?

With a body lift you don't need a transfer case lowering kit and it won't cause any vibes. The steering shouldn't need any mods either for the body lift. About the biggest concerns with a body lift are firewall clearance for the steering shaft, making sure all lines and hoses are long enough to span the increased gap between body and frame, extending the gas filler neck, checking cooling fan clearance with the shroud, and your shifters might need to be lengthened. I don't think you even have to worry about anything with a 1" body lift though except for maybe some slight trimming of the lower section of the fan shroud.

so how hard is a 1" body lift to install on a TJ?

Not hard, depending on how high you go. Shortest is the easiest, fewer modifications needed.

Take out the 5 body bolts from one side of the jeep, and the body bolt from beneath the radiator. Loosen the body bolts on the opposite side but leave them in. Jack up the side of the body with no bolts and insert the BL spacer. Install the longer bolts and hand tighten. Move to the other side and repeat.

Check for interferance at AC lines, steering shaft, and bottom of the fan shroud. You may need an adapter for the transfer case linkage as some genius decided it was a good idea to mount the transfer case linkage to the body on a TJ. Shoulda stuck with the YJ type.
