BLEH!!!! Do you got it?

Several things to consider about the flu shot,

1) The shot contains dead virus' so the shots cannot make you sick (however the new nasal vaccine contains dead and weakend components). You may however feel like crap for a couple days about a week and a half later, thats due to your body's immunologic response to the vaccine, your body is working to develop the tools to fight the flu, but is not actually combating the flu. Kinda like training to run from a bear, you'll be sore from the training, but hopefully when you meet the bear you'll be fast enough to get away before he can get ahold of ya.

2) The shot only contains certian strains of the flu, strains that the CDC has determined to be of concern, it wouldn't be practical to try and vaccinate you for every known strain of flu. There is also the affore mentioned ~2 week lag. So with the shot you can still get the flu within the approx 2 weeks or if you are innoculated with a strain not covered in the vaccine.

3) The shot causes your immune system to be able to combat the flu effectively when/if you are innoculated with a live strain of that particular flu in the future, whereas antibiotics themselves kill the offending bug (will not kill virus' such as the flu), so the natural selection mechanism is not there to lead to the development of any sort of antibiotic resistant strain of anything.

P.S. a good way to prevent getting it is to get some of the clorox wipes and disinfect your hands occasionally when you're out and about and always use em to wipe down the handle on your shopping cart (they're more contaminated than the public bathroom door handle or toilet seats  )

Well, I got it pretty early, and it was bad. My girlfriend got it first, and after she started getting over it, then that's when I got it. It's okay, I'm close enough to Mexico that all we had to do it drive on over there and get some good drugs. I was better pretty fast. The doc here in town gave my girlfriend Cough drops and tylenol for her 103+ fever. CRAZY-al

Ahhhhhhh! :x :) JK. Sounds like this flu warrants the good ol antibiotic usage.

I cant remember the last time I was sick (knock on wood) :) , I did get the flu shot though since it is mandatory for service personnel. This is the first year, though, that I have gotten the shot.

Officially I have this flu as of today. I had one in October, right after I got the flu Shot.

This one today makes me just want to die. There goes my dreams of sugarplums dancing around my head for christmas.

Will have to cancel my visit with my grandparents, both in thier eighties. I was going to do that weds but can't chance them getting sick. Not sure If I can move on friday either, and had a gang ready to help me do that after renting a house last week.

I'm 30 next week too. Please say a prayer. I won't be online anymore until this and the holidays are over.

Lady

Lady: Consider it done. Hope you are feeling better by now and in time for your Birthday!

All:
Well the baby (keeping him hydrated) and wife have high fevers, cough, runny nose, blah blah blah. The other 3 kids are a little warm but seem ok. I feel great but this thing has invaded the house and I sense my impending doom :( . Doctor's appt today for the baby, in the meantime I took off work for the next 2 days to play Mr. Mom and nurse. My nearby inlaws who all got the flu shot are all sick too.

The Doctor recommended Sambucol (elderberry extract) as a possible help for alleviating flu symptoms. It's supposed to work in helping the immune system combat it, but is best when taken at first sign of illness.

Haven't tried it yet, but thought I might pass it along for you other sickies out there [/quote]

Don't have it yet, praying I don't get it traveling! I leave for NYC tonight I'm totally scared I'm gonna catch it traveling and be knocked out on meds my whole trip! Not that the climate change isn't already gonna mess with me enough! lol, oh well.
My poor mommy was in the hospital with it, she's also trying to quit smoking so it's wreaking double duty on her right now. Saying a prayer for her every night, you better believe that!
Ok, people's I hope all of you that are sick get well swiftly, and I hope all of you that are not stay in good health, Happy New Years Jeepers!

I don't get sick :-)

But maybe I just jinxed myself for all you suffering.

Me either.
It has been over 15 years since I even had a cold. My theory is that if you keep enough alcohol in your system it will kill any germs or viruses.
My wife and everyone in my office has had it. They all had the shot. Not me. Beer=Good

So far I'm ok. Haven't had a beer in a long time, maybe I drank enough earlier on to carry me through!

Here the flu is taking fellow employee's out like turkeys at a turkey shoot.
There dropping fast...I have been telling them good food and diet can help! Add some anti-oxidents to your diet, throw in some fresh herbs and garlic...and you can waltz through the death ward.

Oh a few oz's of 12 year old scotch helps...lol pickle it before it pickles you!

2 more kids got it. Just me & my youngest daughter still hanging tough. This thing is ugly.

No make it all 4 kids.

Copper!

OMG four sick kids? Holy moley you are having a rough time of this flu. I hope everyone in your household gets better soon!

It turns out after going to a doc middle of last week, that I probably had more of a strep (throat) strain of illness than a flu, although it felt like flu too. Heh, can you believe I got my throat healed this past weekend and rolled right into another nasty thing, bronch or something. I have this nasty whooping cough and wheeze. I feel better than I did for the past seven days but not healed. Oh well, what can ya do? :?

I think everyone should keep thierselves in tip top shape and watch out for germs! There are so many nasties out there this winter. I wish everyone well.

Sully, that is sad indeed. I am sorry to read it. :(
