Bad Transfercase?

I have a 95 wrangler and when I am driving at speeds typically 35mph and higher when i am just riding the accelerator to maintain speed or put in the clutch i get a gnarly grinding/ rattling noise coming from what i think is the transfer case. When i put the car in four wheel low the sound goes away but can still feel the rattle on the accelerator. Has any one had similar problems or would have any idea what that sounds like

Have you drained the transfer case and inspected the fluid?

Thsts what i wanted to do today. Hopeing for the best and its just a lube top off.....

Check your linkage and be sure the transfew is fully in each position. If you are in between detents it can grind. A friend of mine had a Dodge truck do this. Going down the road in 2H the transfer made grinding noises. In 4H it was quiet. The linkage was keeping the transfer in between "gears". Best of luck - John

update: My driveline angle was was out of place, threw on a transfer case drop kit and now its all gravy. Thanks for the responses

yeah right outside of chicago
