i was doing 70 in my jeep tonight and was doing it for about 10 minutes. then seen smoke blowing out og the rear end . turns out that the 904 torqueflight boiling its fluid. i have a large (like for a full sive diesel truck) transmission cooler and it still does it. i have a rough country 4" suspention and 3" body. i commute 5 times a week. so i cant have this happen alot.. its the 2nd time this has happened. why? what can i do about it ? thanks guys

I'm guessing you a have high gear ratio? 3.07 maybe?

70 mph with the weight and circumference of 33's is brutal on a transmission that is geared for 28" skinny tires, especially an automatic.

Re-gear your axles and the transmission will run cooler.

[edit]
...until then slow it down if you want your transmission to survive.

thanks twisted , i havent had the chance to re gear. they are 3.07 and i might find one of those explorer axles and swap it in but havent had the cash to do it. i see about a pusher puller fan for the front of the rad and transmission cooler. think that would do it for a lil while?/

are the trans lines still routed through the radiator? I did away with that configuration on my van, and the transmission ran a lot cooler. The radiator is over 200 degrees.

Too much fluid or clogged filter, possibly.
Where is your cooler mounted?

yes i still routed the lines through the rad. i just changed the filter. early too for the change. cooler is mounted right in front of the rad lines run into rad to the cooler back to the transmission . i'll eliminate the rad and see if the temp goes down. thanks guys
