Acc Lamps

I just put in a new oil pressure gauge in because the old one was broken. Now, my acc lamps fuse keeps blowing. I thought I read somewhere that there should be some resistor in the gauges. Is this for the signal or the lights? What kind of resistor is it, and how does one go about putting a resistor in a piece of straight wire?

HYD. CLUTCH BLEEDS DOWN

Sorry, don't wanna be a jerk, but I gotta bump this one back up. Anybody have any idea?

There is no resistor, just the sender unit. The gauge works by grounding the 12V source through the unit. It is basically a variable resistor.
I would bet that while messing with the gauge you knocked some wire loose and now you have it shorting out somewhere. I did something similar once. Check it out for floating orange wires, or a ground wire crossing over the hot terminal on a light somewhere. I had one that came loose from somewhere and started bouncing around under the dash, blowing the fuse every time it hit my radio housing.

Check your wires first. Purple to passenger side, Black to middle and Red to driver side posts.

Well, its a mechanical guage. I assumed the black one was ground and used that for the ground on my light. Was I wrong?

RE: carb or what?

could be ... the gauge may ground thru the bezel and the post for the light - if its mechanical you mean it has a tube going to it to get the pressure reading? if thats the case youre grounding your 12V for the lite... that ='s pop goes the fuse!

RE: CRAP Fuel sender unit!

if its mechanical you mean it has a tube going to it to get the pressure reading?

Exactly. So, I ran the wire normally going to the light to the new light, then I used the black wire as the ground for my light. Should I just try grounding the light somewhere else then? Sorry, but I'm a complete retard when it comes to electricity. It's a miracle I spelled it right.

RE: hello

check it w/an ohm meter to make sure the gauge itself isnt shorted - in other words... ground the black wire and make sure there is some resistance (the bulb) between the red wire and ground..... in a "normal" world... red is + and black is "-" .... if the circuit inside is shorted (always possible) then you'll get the blown fuse - check it outside the vehicle if possible...sorry but its been a long time since i installed guages and i'm not sure i explained it right - been a long day...
