A Question Regarding Taking the TJ Floor Carpets Off

Hey all,

I plan to permanently remove the carpeting on my 99 TJ. I just find it helpful when hosing the interior down as I get a lot of mud and debri inside.

After taking the carpets off I noticed the warning labels on both driver and front passenger side that the carpeting helps dissipate heat from the floor. Makes sense, but I noticed the heat resistant lining glued on only at the bottom of the driver side carpeting near the shift and on the passenger side carpeting directly underneath (where your feet would be).

I wanted to ask if anyone would know which parts of the floor normally covered by the carpeting heats up to the point where it would burn you. At this point I plan to buy a couple square feet of heat-resistant lining to cover the parts of the floor where the factory heat-resistant lining would normally cover when you put on the carpeting on. I figure this should be sufficient but I wanted to make sure this would be safe in the long run before doing it.

I would appreciate any comments. Thanks much.

Easy...just cruise around awhile and see what gets hot.....pretty much a no-brainer, eh?

just don't drive barefoot! I've never burnt my feet or my legs and I can't remember when the last time i had my carpet in was.

I don't see how it could burn you....:?
There is no direct heat source to the tub to make it excessively hot. It will get warm with the transmission and exhaust running below the floor, but never hot enough to cause any harm. It will keep you warm in the winter though.
