15x8... enough?

Starting to think about new wheels in the near future and planning on the Cragar 397's. I currently run 31x10.5's, so I know the 15x8 wheels would work, but how big of a tire can I run on 15x8's? I'm thinking once I get new tires, they will be at least 35's and I don't want to have to get new wheels at that time (once I come up with the money for the lift also). :?

Also, where can I get black center caps for those wheels.... I'm getting rid of all chrome and going with a flat paint, so all trim is going to be black, and I don't want chrome center caps on my wheels.

I've seen plenty of rigs running 35x12.5's on 15x8 rims with no problems. In fact a lot of people prefer it over 15x10's due to a better seat when aired down. I've never seen black center caps before. I just used a can of rustoleum on mine.

Yeah, 8" wide rims are fine up to 12" wide tires.

Your other option to painting new chrome center caps, is not buying any. Or, maybe you can find some used for cheap. I'd hate to paint something brand new.

my jeep has ZERO chrome, or even silver, all of the lights are blacked out etc. but i do have the chrome centers, and they dont look bad at all. you're nuts will probably be silver too. check it out

Yeah, I wasn't crazy about painting something brand new either... I'll either find some old ones to try and paint or just not worry about it for a while. Thanks guys....

You wouldn't have posted if you didn't want opinions, so I'll give my less than popular take on this subject.

No, you shouldn't run a 35x12.50 on an 8" wide wheel. Can you? Yes. You can also put on a set of those plastic mickey mouse ears, strip down naked, shove a banana up your butt, and run down the street singing the Canadian nation anthem.....that doesn't mean it's in your best interests. No tire manufacturer that I know of recommends an 8" rim width with a 35x12.50 or larger tire. Most 35x12.50s are rated that size on a 10" wide rim. Not taking the height and construction of the tire into account when deciding rim width is silly. Sure, you can do fine with running a 33x12.50 on an 8" wide wheel, but let's say you were getting a set of 38x12.50 BIAS belted TSLs. Is it still okay to run an 8" wide wheel?

In this case, a 10" wide wheel would be best. You can run 8" wide wheels, lots of people do. It's really no big deal......but there are more negatives than positives involved in doing it. Run them until you can get new ones.

  Oh what a visual.....

I understand what you're saying about not running 35x12.5's on an 8" rim. Not even sure if that is the size I will eventually go to (maybe larger). If that's the case, I'll get wider rims then... but, if I end up with 35x12.5's, good to know that it isn't a total "no-no" until I can get new wheels.

On a side note, at what size tire would it be necessary to go up to a 16x10 wheel/tire?
