Can ya'll tell me what the red wire is that comes out of the bottom of my intake manifold? Its got a connector on it, that looks like it touched the exhaust at one time, because the tip of it's melted. I just noticed it today, and that it wasn't connected. ('89, 4.2L)

My charging system is giving me hell. I want to say it's the alternator, because it starts to die whenever i turn on my headllights, or hit the brakes. It gets worse the further i drive it. I can also watch the needle on my voltmeter move lower every time an exterior light like that comes on...
