Do I have a bad torque converter?

That stinks man. I'm going to pay extra attention to this.

Do I have a bad torque converter?

I'm with you on this. I don't trust AI in general, however I do think it's good as "yet another opinion". I've been using Valvoline ATF+4 for some time now. Since I bought that fluid extractor I've changed the trans fluid (well, half at a time) every other oil change. My Jeep still runs...

For my trail bag - 90 minute gasket maker VS 1 minute

Here's where Permatex talks about the need for a pressurized can:

Do I have a bad torque converter?

I asked Chat GPT, and it told me that this is likely a bad torque converter. Not sure if this is just AI telling me what it thinks I want to hear, or if this is legit, but it sounds good:

For my trail bag - 90 minute gasket maker VS 1 minute

I did some research on the pressurized can. From what I've read, the reason they use a can is because the gasket goo is too thick for a person to squeeze out of a tube. I think I'll probably go with the tube, 90 minutes is not too long of a wait if things have really gone sideways.

Do I have a bad torque converter?

2005 Jeep Wrangler 4.0L with a 42RLE transmission. Symptoms: Loud whine when on the gas. Really easy to hear at 40mph and above, and if I let off the gas to coast the sound goes away. The sound stops for a moment as the jeep downshifts, and it almost sounds like it grinds / growls to a stop...

For my trail bag - 90 minute gasket maker VS 1 minute

I'm always building out my trail bag with tools and emergency spares. This Feb we're planing on another wheeling trip seven hours from home, so I'm revisiting things. I think some gasket maker would be a good addition to my trail bag, but I'm in between two choices: Permatex The Right Stuff...

the 03 rhd tj is still down

That's great man. I've been changing my trans fluid with every other oil change. Just sucking out the fluid in the pan and adding new with my fluid extractor. I also have an after market trans cooler in front of my radiator. From everything I've heard, the 42rle will be the first thing to go...

Helping my buddy with a busted front axle

I went over the weekend and helped my buddy swap his front axle out. Took us from 9:00 a.m. until 7:30 at night, but we got it done. We still need to do the rear axle but I think that's for another weekend We ended up swapping in new axles instead of trying to rebuilding the old one. Because...

HELP! Compass 2008: Engine Runs, Dash Dead, Transmission Stuck, TIPM/IOD Issue?

If replacing the TIPM worked temporarily, I'd keep pulling at that thread. Perhaps you have a bad connection / ground somewhere along those lines. I would get some electronics cleaner and clean all the connections you can, including the ground on your battery cables.

Helping my buddy with a busted front axle

Here's another, maybe easier question: Assuming there's a broken tooth on the ring gear or pinion, would it be safe to remove the ring gear from the carrier, and reinstall the carrier. Essentially making his Jeep two wheel drive? That way he could drive it again until we get parts.

Helping my buddy with a busted front axle

One of the guys I wheel with is in a bit of a spot, and I'm heading up next weekend to help him wrench on his Jeep. It looks like the Dana 30 font axle on his 2016 JK was full of mud, and the gears / front tires locked up. He was driving home when it happened and said it was terrifying. He...

A new Jeep followed me home too

I didn't realize how bad those dipstick photos were - sorry. The level was halfway between cold full and warm low. I'll drive it around a bit and try reading it again.

A new Jeep followed me home too

We did a bit of maintenance today. Started by wanting to change the cabin air filter. However, we found there wasn't one installed. From what YouTube tells me the factory never installed cabin air filters in these guys. Anyway, we slid a new one in there and it was pretty easy. We also changed...

A new Jeep followed me home too

Yeah, we're pretty excited. He's only got his learners permit now, but we're getting there. We were specifically looking for a non-lifted Jeep so that he could get some practice.

A new Jeep followed me home too

Picked up this 2017 Jeep Wrangler Willys edition for my son who just turned 16. It runs great and is in fantastic condition. Even came with a hardtop and a soft top that I don't think has ever been installed. 152,000 miles, so it's seen some interstate, but it drives beautifully. I wasn't...

Bad TPS, do I need a Mopar replacement?

Ordered a new Mopar TPS from Amazon. It was easy enough to swap in, and the engine sounds good. Now. Idles are where I'd expect. I probably need to put more miles on it before claiming success, but things are looking pretty good. The old one, as well as the wiring didn't look very bad. Is...
