The 3.7 liter v-6 came in the 86 models.

I run 32 on mine and have never heard them rub. However make sure the front end is tight or it will wonder like a B___h.

Thank you so much for your input. Being old school I remember my chains and gears needing to be replaced at 60k. Both cherokees are sport models and I was unable to find any info in any of my manuals.
